Direct Methanol Production Facility
This team is analyzing the chemical production of methanol from natural gas,
and is also investigating the manufacturing and assembly of the fuel cells.
Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cogeneration Facility
The goal of this project is to study the generation of electricity from a high
temperature solid oxide fuel cell, and to recover some of the heat losses and
convert them into additional electricity. The application of the facility is to
power a city.
Biodiesel Production for Street Sweeper
The goal of this project is to study the manufacturing of biodiesel for use in a local street sweeper (used to remove stamp sands from the streets and sidewalks after the spring thaw).
“Solar” Car
The goal of this project is to investigate alternative energy for vehicle propulsion. The team will look for competitions and sponsorship opportunities and possibly collaborate with other MTU enterprises.

Solar Energy Analysis
The goal of this project is to analyze solar panels at Keweenaw Research Center and make recommendations for future scaleup of solar power at Michigan Technological University.
