Enterprise Registration Changes for Fall 2009

As the Enterprise Program continues to grow and expand across disciplines, so does the challenge of ensuring that engineering students meet the capstone requirements dictated by their departments and ABET. In an effort to ensure that a student’s participation in the Enterprise program represents an equivalent design experience as required per ABET, the Enterprise program office and the College of Engineering have identified a series of changes that will impact those students who would normally register for ENT4950 as described below:

*Engineering Majors:*

Engineering students that are fulfilling their departmental capstone requirement through participation in Enterprise must complete the attached ENT4950 Registration Permission Form (Enterprise Engineering Design Verification* *Form*) *prior to registering for ENT4950.

This form is to be completed by each student prior to registering for ENT4950. Students should consult with their Enterprise team advisor when defining the capstone-equivalent project they will be participating in. Upon completing the form, it will need to be approved by the Enterprise team advisor *and* the designated departmental representative (Chair, Academic Advisor or other). The completed/signed form is required for admittance to ENT4950 and must be submitted to the Enterprise program office in order to obtain the necessary registration approval. It is recommended that this form be completed during the semester prior to taking ENT4950 in order to facilitate the registration process, but it must be completed and submitted to the Enterprise office (722 M&M) /no later than/ the end of the first week of classes of the semester in which ENT4950 is to be taken.

Recognizing that it may not be possible to fully identify the intended design project in this timeframe, or that design project scope and/or deliverables may change over the course of the semester, amended forms should be prepared and submitted to the Enterprise office as appropriate. The final Enterprise Engineering Design Verification form on file with the Enterprise office at the conclusion of the Enterprise project course sequence must represent the project and deliverables as completed by the student.

In addition to the above described form, each engineering department has identified the following set of prerequisite courses to ENT4950 to ensure "senior design readiness":

  • BE 3500(C) *or*
  • (CE 3331 or CE 3620) and CE 3810 *or*
  • CM 4855(C) *or*
  • (EE 3173 or EE 3305) and (EE 3175 or EE 3130 or EE 4431) *or*
  • (MEEM 3000(C) and MEEM 3900) *or*
  • (MY 3110 and MY 3200 and MY 3210 and MY 3300 and MY 3400)

The Enterprise program office and/or the departmental advisor will review the student's records to ensure required prereqs have been completed.

*Computer Science Majors*
Computer Science Majors should continue to register for ENT4950 and ENT4960 as appropriate. The prerequisites noted for Computer Science Majors are (CS 4710 and CS 4711 and CS 4712). The ENT4950 Registration Approval Form is not required of CS majors at this time.

*All Other Majors*
All other students participating in Enterprise should now register for ENT4900 (fall semester) and ENT4910 (spring semester) in place of ENT4950 and ENT4960. The only restriction on these courses is a class standing requirement (senior-level standing is required).

Please note that while our intention is to make the process of obtaining registration approval as efficient as possible for both students and faculty, we realize that there may be bugs to work out along the way. Your feedback during this initial roll-out is very important. Please bring questions and concerns to our attention by contacting Mary Raber (mraber@mtu.edu) as you encounter them and we'll do our best to address them quickly.
