Aqua Terra Tech, in an attempt
to help high schools form a program that will mirror Michigan Tech's Enterprise Program, has
developed the Earth and Hydro-Science Outreach (EH-SO) program. EH-SO (pronounced "A-SO") is currently collaborating with "Earth Tomorrow" at Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan and ACE Tech Chicago, Illinois. It is our intent to not only help with the conception of a pre-college enterprise program, but to also spark the students' interest in a career in the sciences. Currently the Enterprise is focused on refining the rain garden project. In 2006-2007 the Cass Tech's Earth Tomorrow group conducted experiments on mini portable rain gardens. Potentially this will expand into a rain garden located in either a lot next to or on top of the high school. To make this expanded rain garden a reality ATT has split into three groups: Modeling, Design, and Teaming (Communications) Modeling The modeling group is investigating and modifying computer rain garden modeling software. This will help simplify equations regarding rain garden efficiency and overflow, as well as provide visual tool. Design The design group is developing experiments to evaluate area soils. Experiments will allow for hands on learning and provide data that can be used in modeling software. Teaming (Communications) In contrast to the technical aspects of the EH-SO project the teaming group is working to evaluate the problematic long distance communication between the ATT mentors and EH-SO high school members.
