The BST Snow Team focuses the majority of it's efforts on the design and fabrication of snowboards.

This is the BST Snow Team's goal for the 2007-2008 school year. Through extensive lab work last year, the Snow Team has developed two prototype snowboards. Having grown as a group, the team is laboring in the direction of reliability engineering that will bring output up to par with industry. The team collectively feels that before we can start designing and validating core technology or composite lay ups we must have a steady footing to work from. This year is all about developing that footing. The Snow Team plans on executing this goal through the use of thermodynamic process control, advanced tooling and jigging, and through specially developed "Big Picture" metrics.

Thermodynamic Process Control

• A system of linear heating elements governed by a digital controlling unit with a feedback loop will be used to control a snowboard’s curing environment

Tooling and Jigging

• By using specialized tools and jigs, the team will be able to more precisely control material size, shape and orientation throughout the manufacturing process.

"Big Picture" Metrics

• All the design in the world can go into a snowboard, but what really matters is the end product. Metrics are designed to measure material properties, and in turn validate the team's advances in manufacturing technology.
