            Company Summary

The Campus Planning and Development Enterprise was originally developed to provide quality engineering to Michigan Technological University for a low cost. Since that original idea, the enterprise has become much broader. It encompasses not only MTU campus projects, but also those in the surrounding communities and possibly even international projects.

Since the people involved in the Campus Planning and Development Enterprise are all MTU students and faculty, the enterprise has access to excellent computer facilities, labs, office space (with computers, e-mail, fax, and telephone access), and the knowledge of numerous professors. These aspects as well as the extremely low cost of labor allows for a very low operation cost. This in turn will allow for excellent engineering at a low consumer cost.

The benefits in the Campus Planning and Development Enterprise go both to the consumer and students. The consumer benefits are, as detailed above, low cost engineering, but the student benefits involved in the enterprise are not based on a monetary amount. By taking part in these engineering projects, students are getting the hands on training, contacts with industry and possible employers, and the leadership skills that will be essential for their success after school.

Even though Campus Planning and Development Enterprise is a part of MTU and all legalities are handles through the university, the enterprise handles almost everything else on its own. We have office space, manage our funds, and have full control over the design of the projects. Which makes the enterprise much like an engineering firm within Michigan Technological University.

Only the areas of study of the students involved limit the types of projects we are able to handle. Since Michigan Technological University’s three larges majors are Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering, these are the areas that are of primary interest to the enterprise.
