The city of Boaco, Nicaragua is in need of better water resources. The residents are able to get water twice a week from the municipal supply. Occassionally the water will actually flow through the distribution system, but due to old leaky pipes, only about half of the water makes it to the residents. Even then, the water is barely fit for cleaning or other uses.

Aqua Terra Tech's project is to use satellite infrared images as above and ground geophysics to locate a source of a new potential well. Early in January 2007, a group went to Boaco and performed Very Low Frequency (VLF) Electromagnetic surveys and Resistivity profiles at sites determined by vegetation patterns (red areas) in the image above.

As this problem is multi-faceted we have also been working on designing new water treatment systems, distribution systems, and pump design. We should have the Boaco area completed to the best of our capabilities by fall 2007 and we will then move on to another area.
